Your solar energy system performance is calculated by Solar Analytics as a ratio of measured solar production compared with the expected solar production, which we calculate based on your system specifications and local weather conditions.
Some systems will be slightly above or slightly below 100%, even when everything is operating ideally. This is due to small variations in the system design and components, which can differ slightly from manufacturer’s specifications and from model assumptions as well as day to day variations in the accuracy of weather data.
Underperformance means that the measured solar production is less than the expected solar production. This can have numerous causes, including panel faults, inverter faults, wiring faults, design faults, monitoring faults and incorrect specifications.
Often in the first weeks after monitoring begins, systems can appear to be underperforming, while our algorithms learn about your system from the measured data. The performance should be more accurate and reliable after about two weeks.
In the event of any Underperformance in your solar energy system, Solar Analytics will notify you via email and the dashboard to advise you of the recommended course of action to resolve the problem.
