There are times that the Solar system has to be installed or connected to the shed or sub-board. Under such circumstances, the configuration of the Solar Analytics monitoring devices is going to be slightly different than usual.
For an example, the NEM is inside the Main Switchboard that is located on a garage or simply outside the house. However, the Solar Supply Switch is located on a sub-board which could be on a wardrobe or storage section of the house; or the Solar is actually located on a shed. Under such circumstances, due to our current transformer sensor configuration, the current Solar Analytics devices (RSC-23s and RKR-63s) will not be able to capture the clean Solar Generation. Hence, the right thing to do is to have two Solar Analytics devices on each board.
You may get away with one device by capturing the Solar Generation via the sub-board or the Shed circuit breaker, however, there are things that you and your customer need to be aware of:
- Solar Analytics will not be able to capture the clean data of the Solar Generation
- The polarity algorithm might get confused due to possible night consumption at shed which is interpreted as negative generation at night
- The performance algorithm might think the system is underperforming as the Solar Generation might be reduced by the direct consumption of the loads on the sub-board or the shed
The bottom line is to install enough Solar Analytics devices to capture the data accurately.
