As a Solar Analytics customer, it's a great feeling to be able to see the amount that you have spent on electricity. We provide a Net Spend reading on the dashboard so that you can track your expenditure.
In most cases, there will be a noticeable discrepancy between the Net Spend figure that we provide on your Dashboard and the figure on your electricity invoice. Here we explain why:
1. The Daily Supply Charge
The Net Spend amount displayed on the Solar Analytics dashboard only takes into account the electricity consumption. In reality, you also have to pay the Daily Supply Charge — the service fee to be connected to the grid.
Here is an example:
I receive my electricity bill and it says that I need to pay $277.79.
I logged into my Solar Analytics dashboard to confirm the charges by checking the consumption data for the dates on my electricity bill (check this page to see how to isolate the date range on the Solar Analytics consumption page).
Solar Analytics suggests that I only need to pay $198.68!
The discrepancy is because the Solar Analytics software is not taking into account the 84 cent Daily Supply Charge. This is a feature that will be made available in the future.
You'll also notice that the Solar Analytics Dashboard shows that 685.1 kWh of electricity has been consumed over that period. The electricity bill shows that 692 kWh of electricity has been consumed. This 1% discrepancy is caused by the time of day that the smart meter was read by the electricity company, and is small enough not to warrant concern.
2. Outstanding balance from your previous invoice
Another reason that your electricity bill figure may be different to the Net Spend displayed on your dashboard is that there might be an outstanding amount that hasn't been cleared from the previous invoice. Please refer to the example below.
Notice that the actual charge for this invoice is $195.67. However, as there is an outstanding amount of $284.27 from the previous invoice, the total amount due is $479.94.
3. Incorrect tariff on the dashboard
In order for the Net Spend to be accurate, you will need to ensure that the default tariff settings have been updated to reflect your actual electricity charges and feed-in-tariffs. If you haven't updated your tariff settings, please check this page for assistance.

4. Solar PV system not connected to the sub-board
There are cases where the Solar Analytics Net Spend amount on the dashboard doesn't match the electricity invoice because the monitoring device is connected to a sub-board and only reads a portion of your home's electrical consumption.

5. Different electricity tariff for a controlled load
Solar Analytics only supports two types of tariff rates: Flat rate and Time of Use (ToU) rate. If you have a special lower rate for your controlled load (eg Hot Water or Air Conditioner), the figures provided on the Solar Analytics dashboard will differ to your electricity invoice.
6. An installation issue with the Solar Analytics device
On the dashboard do you notice any of the following:
Does the Consumption curve mimic the Production curve?
Do you notice any negative consumption during non-Production hours?
Do you see any negative reading on the Production curve?
Does the reading on the Live Monitor match the reading on the inverter screen?
